NFL Football: Victory proves two things: Lions have arrived, and Tim Tebow hasn't

Posted October 30, 2011

They tried to bill this game — with the NFL's tacit approval — as a matchup of good vs. evil.

But the reality is, that was never quite right. This was simply good vs. bad.

The Detroit Lions are a good team. The Denver Broncos are not.

And though Detroit's newest incarnation of the Bad Boys seems to relish the idea of wearing the black hat — and who wouldn't, after all those years dressing up for Halloween as the league doormat — Sunday's 45-10 win at Mile High Stadium really wasn't about anything more than that.

Oh, sure, the Lions had their fun playing the part, especially after the NFL's own website trumpeted that storyline, pitting Tim Tebow's saintly image against Ndamukong Suh's increasingly menacing one. (MORE>>>)

NFL Football: Is Lions' Ndamukong Suh a dirty player? Web abuzz with debate

Posted October 24, 2011

The Monday morning quarterbacks are at it again.

Last week the Web was all atwitter over the Motor City Shakedown – the postgame handshake skirmish between Lions coach Jim Schwartz and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh.

This week the great debate is whether Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is a dirty player – this coming after Falcons players said Suh and teammate Cliff Avril taunted Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan when he was on the turf with an injured ankle Sunday. (MORE>>>)

NFL Football: Report- Detroit Lion Jahvid Best is advised to consider ending his year

Posted October 20, 2011

The Detroit Lions' problems at running back aren't getting any better.

A day after the Lions' trade for Ronnie Brown was voided, CBSSports.com reports that starter Jahvid Best has been advised by people close to him "that he needs to strongly consider sitting out the year" after suffering his second concussion in two months last week against the San Francisco 49ers.(MORE>>>)

NFL Football: Ronnie Brown trade voided

Posted October 19, 2011

Suddenly, the Detroit Lions have major issues at running back.

Detroit's trade with Philadelphia that exchanged seldom-used veteran running backs Ronnie Brown and Jerome Harrison has been voided.

Two league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the trade was voided because Harrison has previously undisclosed health issues.

Brown arrived in Detroit but never got to practice. (MORE>>>)

NFL Football: 49ers rally, beat previously unbeaten Lions (Harbaugh vs Schwartz Video)

Posted October 16, 2011

Jim Harbaugh charged across the field, lifting his shirt to expose his belly to attempt a chest bump. He extended his right hand to Jim Schwartz for a shake and slapped him on the back with his left hand.

Schwartz didn't like what was done or said — claiming he heard an expletive — and went charging after Harbaugh. What an emotion-filled scene following a meeting of turnaround teams that matched pregame hype in San Francisco's 25-19 victory over Detroit on Sunday.

The NFC might have a nasty new rivalry no one saw coming. (MORE>>>)

NFL Football: Detroit Lions: Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders make it a big night

Posted October 11, 2011

Barry Sanders represented the past. Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and company represented the present (and from the looks of things, the future too). And the Detroit Lions and their fans just plain represented on national television Monday night.

Detroit made the most of its first appearance on “Monday Night Football” in a decade. The largest crowd ever at Ford Field (67,861) actually delayed the national anthem with their chants of “Bar-ry! Bar-ry!” after the Lions’ legend took part in the coin flip. (MORE>>>)

NFL Football: Lions Nick Fairley To Debut (ESPN)

Posted October 7, 2011

Although the Detroit Lions continue to downplay the practice return of defensive tackle Nick Fairley, the rookie will make his debut Monday night against the Chicago Bears, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The 12th overall pick of the NFL draft, Fairley broke his foot in training camp, causing him to miss the entire preseason and the team's first four games. Lions coach Jim Schwartz sidestepped questions regarding Fairley's potential availability earlier in the week. But according to the source, Fairley has told friends and family -- who are traveling to Detroit for the game -- that he expects to participate in a situational capacity. (MORE>>>)
