"To the victor go the spoils" is a cliché that doesn't always necessarily apply to the NFL, at least in regard to getting drafting rights to the next prized college quarterback.
This season, that distinction belongs to Andrew Luck,
the Stanford quarterback who is almost universally regarded as a
can't-miss performer at the next level. After defeats Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts (0-8) and Miami Dolphins
(0-7) lead the Luck sweepstakes — getting the No.1 pick in the 2012
draft — as the only clubs still searching for their first win. The Colts
fell behind early in a 27-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Dolphins lost in a more heartbreaking fashion, falling 20-17 to the New York Giants after leading for most of the game. (MORE>>>)

Stanford's first win of the season against a ranked team helped Andrew Luck and the Cardinal move up in the BCS standings.
While LSU (8-0), Alabama (8-0) and Oklahoma State (8-0) remained locked into the top three spots in the standings released Sunday, Stanford moved up two places to fourth after beating Southern California 56-48 in triple overtime.
Boise State (7-0) slipped a spot to fifth, while Clemson (7-1) fell from fifth to 11th after its first loss.
LSU and Alabama will play Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for first place and the inside track to the BCS National Championship Game. (MORE>>>)
USC football coaches took their seats on the Andrew Luck Hype Wagon this week, with Lane Kiffin calling the Stanford redshirt junior "one of the best ever to play," and his dad, Monte, who coached for 25 years in the NFL, calling Luck "one of the top quarterbacks ever."
Not long ago, ESPN columnist Rick Reilly suggested that NFL teams soon will begin tanking games so they can angle for Luck with the No. 1 overall pick.
"Luck is so indescribably good, I fully expect somebody to lose in their bye week," Reilly wrote. (MORE>>>)

For teams across the NFL that have performed, shall we say, below average, there's a silver lining. It is considered almost a foregone conclusion at this point that the team with the first draft pick next year will take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, considered one of the best college players of his generation. Some fans have even gone so far as to hope their teams "suck for Luck" - basically write off this season in the hopes of earning the first pick in the draft.
It seems fans aren't the only ones getting in on the fun. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross reportedly feels the same way, if a recent article in the Miami Herald is to be believed. (MORE>>>)
